The Hills

Isn't this such a great picture of them?  Isn't it funny how you see a picture and you have no idea what the story is behind it?

Well....I happen to know a couple of things about The Hills.

Let's start with Jennifer Michele(one 1) Pityer.  Yes, we have the same name...I have two lls, she has one.  We met on the school bus in 5th grade.  I had just moved to GA from FL and didn't know anyone, and even though she was shy, she "friended" me.  She was adorable with her homemade Multiples and french braids.  We really hit it off in middle school and would even send home a notebook each night to write stuff to each other the next day.  I wish I had one of those notebooks now to see what we said to each other back then.  And just in case you didn't know this, she played the clarinet...when band was cool.  In high school we weren't as close, since you know...band in high school isn't as cool.  Turns out, Jenn and her best friend Laura and me and my best friend Diana got accepted to North Georgia and we got rooms right next to each other.  The rest is history.  Those were some of the best years of my life laughing until the wee hours of the night about jellybeans and peeing in our pants about the flavor of the month.  Notice I didn't say studying until the wee hours of the night...because we(well Angie did) didn't really study.  But, despite what everyone tells you...your grades don't really matter since Jenn is the only one of us who has her Master's Degree and the only one who has ever won an award for her job...Teacher of the Year to be exact.

She is sunshine to everyone who knows her.  She loves the beach esp. at the end of the day when everyone has gone in to take showers.  She could sit at the edge of the shore for hours, and I am so excited for her that she is living her dream of living at the beach.  She is thoughtful and crafty and makes the greatest homemade gifts.  Make sure you always have your present opened before hers since hers will always win for creativity.  My favorite things she has given me are the handpainted canvases and my Christian shower present frame.  Once you know her long enough, you will see has a fiesty side, she is very protective of her family, isn't fond of strangers or animals that aren't in cages, and has her share of car accidents.  She is very organized and a list maker.  Be careful if you tell her something, she feels what you feel.  She will cry with you and will stay up all night worrying with a tummy ache thinking about you.  She is so encouraging to me about my parenting.  She gives me great ideas that are specific to my kids phase or ability, and she always has their best interest.  She loves my kids just like her own, and was Christian's biggest fan with his speech delay.  She loves snail mail and has always been a good writer.  She is the reason that I even have this blog, and it is her fault that I get lost in blogland.  But secretly, I am so thankful that my kids will have something to look back on.  It was one of those gifts she didn't even know she was giving me.

Shaney...once you know enough about a person, you can call them a nickname even if they are tough and over 6 foot.  He is everything Jenn could have asked for in a mate.  They are perfect compliments of each other.  He would never cause a scene and thinks ahead about how it might make someone else feel.  He is one of the most resourceful people I know.  If you were left on an island and could only bring a couple of things...Shane should be one of them.  He can make(rig) up anything anywhere.  We have been in the middle of the woods watching cable tv and eating dinner out of a make shift stove.  He is a pretty good cook and makes some mean crab cakes.  He can build anything, usually all before 12 noon on a Sat.  He loves to plan vacations and explore new places.  He is a really hard worker and I would love to see what Austrailla thought of his accent.  He loves movies and the latest gadget.  He is an amazing father and is one of the only other parents I would trust with my kids.  He would never let them get hurt on his watch.  If they ever got sick, he would do anything to make them feel better.  He is really kind and selfless that way.  He would choose Carson and Davis's feelings over his own...every time.

The Hills together...they make each other better people.  Jenn makes Shane get out of his comfort zone and let the kids get all sandy at the beach.  But, he will have brought a make shift shower to clean them off before they get into the car.  Shane helps Jenn navigate through doing something for the first time.  He helps her think of all the possibilites and the outcomes.  He makes her suck it up and she makes him smell the roses a little more.  They are a great team.  Don't challenge them at Halloween costumes, because you WILL lose.  They have a great marriage, not because they have been married for (almost) 10 years.  But, because they work at it, because they truly put each other before the other.  They are some of the kindest people I know.  He would help you move, dig a ditch, or go and find your kid a zhu zhu pet at 5 different stores.  She would babysit, bring a meal, or volunteer.  If you follow her blog http://www.justuslivingbythesea.blogspot.com/, they are exactly how they are on her blog, real and down to earth.

Anyone who calls them friends know this is true...we are better people because of you guys.
We are so thankful for your friendship.
